Seki edge nail clipper12/10/2023 What I mean is, yes be sceptical of mass-produced Chinese goods, but you'd be missing out on nice stuff if you refuse all Chinese goods on principle. ![]() Yixing teapots are a stupid expensive Chinese product so well respected that other countries make knockoffs. Just off the top of my head, Kizer Knives and WE Knives are two examples of new Chinese manufacturers that make a cheaper and better quality product comparable to equivalent tier USA knives. This means products and quality vary a lot as the "mass produce crap as quickly and shoddily as possible" strategy is no longer as viable in China. Labor there is expensive enough now that a lot of industries are moving out of China. What I mean is if there is a Chinese product that people have reviewed favorably, it makes no sense to disregard it solely for being Chinese. I don't disagree with their being a lot of shitty Chinese goods, particularly from the retailers that buy wholesale junk of alibaba and sell it at 5x the cost, or whatever. Consumers expectations of quality are pretty low anyway so they just get away with it. But nowadays most stuff is blister-packed bullshit sold in box stores where the customer has no real knowledge of who makes it. If you do that too many times you earn a bad reputation and it ends up driving you out of business. With domestic production, there is less of the murky shadow of middlemen: huckster marketing assholes who just buy stuff at the lowest cost to try and upmarket it. Ever wonder why we don't have Chinese cars on our roads yet? Even Chinese people think Chinese cars are shit. But in the end, it doesn't really matter what the reason is. It mainly happens because to foreign buyers of imported products they often have no other basis for comparison but price. A lot of shit comes out of those Chinese factories. My experience as a consumer is what dictates this disposition. ![]() It is not xenophobic, it is a statement of fact.
